So, do you know what today is? Other than Tuesday? It is Shrove Tuesday. This is the last day before the fasting period of lent. It is 47 days until Easter Sunday. Today is also called, Fat Tuesday, Mardi Gras, and Pancake Day. Today is mainly observed in AL, FL, LA, and MS. While we may not celebrate lent, it is interesting to note that today, before the start of the fasting days of lent, we see an observance of lust filled activities. In these activities we easily can find the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. It reminds me of the day before I start my latest diet. What do I do? I say, “Well, tomorrow I diet so tonight I feast and indulge!” Can I just say that this is not a good way to start a diet plan? I have noticed that many Christians, just before we do something spiritual will indulge the flesh, “One last time.” I don’t see this philosophy anywhere in the Bible. With all the choices we make, and all the temptations we face, today I challenge us all to choose HELP. We cannot be victorious in and of ourselves or own power, we must have the help of God and other godly influences. This is why it is important to surround ourselves with godly music, godly people, godly friends, and other godly influences. I have had to come to the harsh reality that I cannot do it alone. I need others. I need help. I have also noticed in my life that when I try to do things in my own power, I fail miserably. The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” I can do all things THROUGH Christ, not myself. Today, don’t choose self, choose help.
