What is the purpose of masks? It depends on what kind of mask you are wearing. The masks they want us to wear today serves the purpose, according to some experts, of safety. Whether we agree or not with these experts; by the way there are just as many or more experts that say masks don't help; the fact is that there are some reasons why health professionals wear these masks. Other masks hide identity, others still make us into someone or something we are not such as our favorite super hero, princess, or prince. It's amazing the effect of each of these masks.
We wear our emotional or spiritual masks for the same reasons. The challenge is to take them off and be honest with God, others, and yourself. When we put on our masks they make us, many times, feel safe. We have quite an arsenal of masks that we use. If it something we don't want to do we like to pull out them mask of "Uncertainty", "Insecurity", "Doubt", and a multitude of other masks. We put these masks on when we say, "I don't know about that." We also like to put the masks on by saying, "Are you sure, I don't know if I could do that." When we know what we are to do and we make excuses as to why we can't, we are putting on masks for our own "Safety"/ Comfort. We don't want to step outside of our comfort zone, missing all the while the great blessings of simple obedience and taking off the "Comfort Zone" mask.
Our "Comfort Zone" mask that we like to put on is like the face coverings during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many experts tell us that wearing face coverings actually do us more harm than good, because we are directly inhaling what was just exhaled which is harmful. So according to many experts the safety of face coverings hurts us. The same is true with our "Comfort Zone" mask. The more we try to stay in our comfort zone when we know deep down God wants us to step outside and feel the fresh air of His presence and power, the more harm we do to our selves. We hurt our testimony, we get out of God's will, we become stagnant in our Christian growth, and the unhealthy list goes on and on. We must be willing to take off our Comfort Zone mask and step out, by faith into God's fresh breeze of blessing.
