“We Love Choices”

There is an old commercial about a restaurant that states that you can have it your way. We love choices. We love to customize things and make them look, drive, taste, run, and work the way we want. I have, at times, needed to use my wife’s phone. I pick it up and look at it. I then tease her about how confusing her phone is and that she needs to make her phone like mine. She quickly teases back, that if I knew how to organize things, my phone would not look so messy. Each person is different and there is nothing wrong with having choices.

The problem with this idea of have it your own way, is that we try to apply this ideology to our Christian walk. This is not applicable to the Christian walk. Consider 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (20) For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” We are told in the gospel according to Luke that we are to take up our cross daily. Paul tells us that he died daily. This is not to say he physically died every day, but that his own opinions, desires, goals, and ambitions died daily. This is a battle that the apostle Paul dealt with on a daily basis, and it is something that every child of God must battle also. The good news is that God will give us supernatural strength to be victorious, and as a result we will find that God will give us more than we could ever imagine.

The choice is simple. We can choose to disobey God, thus have the consequences of disobedience, or we can choose to surrender ourselves and die daily, thus bringing the blessings of God on our lives. The challenge for my flesh, and yours, is to make it do what deep down we know is best. The choice is ultimately up to the individual. What will you choose?
